What We Do
The Scholarship Committee, a permanent committee accountable to the Board of Directors, receives and assesses scholarship aid applications by examining an online application along with necessary documentation such as tax returns, clinical summaries, and recommendations from educational consultants. Candidate evaluations will adhere to criteria endorsed by the Board periodically.
How We Do it
We collaborate directly with educational consultants to establish a partnership focused on guiding your teenager toward the optimal “next step.” These consultants are seasoned professionals dedicated to transforming the lives of struggling teens. They engage directly with teens, their families, and their treatment professionals to offer support before, during, and after placement. By visiting programs, they build relationships with clinical staff and gain insights into program strengths and weaknesses. Leveraging their expertise, they offer placement recommendations tailored to the teen’s needs and where they are most likely to succeed.
Educational consultants play a vital role in our process. Families seeking scholarship assistance are required to collaborate with an educational consultant. Many consultants offer complimentary intakes for families in need, while all consultants partnering with SavingTeens provide consulting services either for free or at significantly discounted rates (75% or more discount).
Scholarships
Savehn volunteers collaborate with the recommended program to secure the most advantageous scholarship or discount for families. Through this partnership, Savehn structures a tuition payment plan encompassing program discounts or scholarships, family contributions, and the Savehn scholarship.
The Savehn scholarship grants vary from $10,000 to $30,000, determined by the family’s financial requirements and the resources accessible for funding.
Eligibility Criteria
If your teen is between the ages of 13 and 17, and you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please feel free to contact us!
Application Process
- SavingTeens mandates a referral from the family’s educational consultant to commence the scholarship application process. The educational consultant commits to supporting the client either pro bono or at a significantly reduced rate (a discount of 75% or more) throughout the process.
- Families are required to complete our financial screening survey to assess their eligibility for the application process. SavingTeens evaluates the survey results and notifies families of their approval to proceed with the application. It’s important to note that approval to proceed with the application does not guarantee funding.
- Upon approval, families must submit their prior year tax return, sign release forms, and undergo a background check. Subsequently, they will be provided with a secure link to fill out the SavingTeens Scholarship Application.
- Simultaneously, the educational consultant submits a clinical summary detailing program recommendations, tuition costs, the amount parents can contribute, and the estimated duration of the stay.
- Applications are continuously reviewed by the Scholarship Committee on an ongoing basis. Educational consultants collaborate with families to ascertain the most suitable program(s) for the client.
- Awards are contingent on parental need, available funds, and/or program scholarships. The maximum scholarship award per family is $30,000.
Selection Process
- Financial eligibility (as assessed through the application process)
- Families are expected to contribute a portion of the funds towards their child’s care.
- Clients must be a minimum of 13 years old.
- Demonstrated commitment to therapeutic interventions by both the family and the client, evaluated by an educational consultant.
- Complete and punctual submission of required detailed documentation is required.
Thomas E Bratter Fund
Savehn administers a separate scholarship fund, distinct from its general awards program, with the sole aim of offering need-based scholarships at college preparatory therapeutic boarding schools across the United States.
Named in honor of Thomas E. Bratter, the Thomas E. Bratter Fund pays tribute to the Founder of John Dewey Academy, as well as Gabrielle Meerbegen and Alex MacCreedy.
The primary goal of the Bratter Fund is to allocate substantial scholarship funds, which, when combined with parental contributions and scholarships from the school, facilitate access to quality assistance for families of more limited financial means.
Eligible institutions include college preparatory therapeutic boarding schools tailored for intellectually bright yet troubled teenagers, meeting the following criteria:
• Maintains regional accreditation in good standing.
• Ensures a minimum of 75% of teaching conducted in traditional classroom settings.
• Achieves a minimum of 75% of high school graduates enrolling in reputable four-year colleges.
We invite schools, families, and educational consultants who are interested to reach out to us for further details.
